The US Senator for Pennsylvania signs this typed letter in which he thanks the Senior Vice President of Fidelity Bank,  in blue ink

Typed Letter signed: "Dick" in blue ink. 1 page, 8x10½. Place: Washington, District of Columbia. Date: May 26, 1971. Written on letterhead of the Senate Armed Services Committee to Frank McGlinn, Fidelity Bank, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In full: "Dear Frank: A belated note of thanks for sending me the picture from the Finance Committee dinner. I am glad to have it and appreciate very much your thoughtfulness. It was good to see you early this week. Sincerely, Dick".  Richard Schweiker (1926-2015) was President of American Olean Tile Company before winning election to a seat in the US House from Pennsylvania (1961-1969). He went on to win two full terms in the US Senate (1969-1981). At the Republican National Convention in 1976, Ronald Reagan, challenging President Ford for the nomination, announced as the convention opened that he would pick Schweiker as his running mate. The move backfired, losing Reagan conservative delegates instead of gaining him more liberal ones, and Ford was re-nominated. When Reagan gained the White House four years later, Schweiker joined his Cabinet as Secretary of Health and Human Services (1981-1983). After leaving government, Schweiker became President of the American Council of Life Insurance until his 1994 retirement. Normal mailing folds. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
