4¼x3 card with 1½x2¾ color photograph attached at left (two surfaces). Handsome
leading man Richard Todd, born in 1919, found his greatest acclaim in roles in
which he played a Scot. In 1949, he received Best Actor Academy Award and
Golden Globe nominations for his role as Corporal Lachlan "Lachie" Mac Lachan in
The Hasty Heart, which also starred Ronald Reagan, and in 1955, he
portrayed U.S. Senate Chaplain Peter Marshall in A Man Called Peter. A
founding member of the Dundee Repertory Theatre of Scotland, Todd returned to
the stage between his films, which included the WWII dramas Operation Cross
Bow (1955), D-Day, The Sixth of June (1956), The Long and the
Short and The Tall (1961) and The Longest Day (1962). Todd also
appeared in The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men (1953), The
Virgin Queen (1955), The Secret of Dorian Gray (1970) and The Big
Sleep (1978) and in television dramas. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso
