RICHARD TRAVIS
Vintage studio photo in a wool suit, inscribed in person to collector
Saul Goodman. Rare signature.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul/Very best
wishes/always!/Richard Travis". B/w, 8x10. Captioned in lower margin.
Collector's ink note on verso dates signature: October 13, 1943. Despite a
promising start in The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942), Richard
Travis (1913-1989) never developed into a star. Backlash (1947),
in which he played a lawyer trying to blame his wife for a crime he committed,
was one of his few starring roles. He found steady work in Poverty Row
features, however, and was seen frequently in guest spots on TV crime and
Western series of the 1950s and sixties. He starred in the one-season series
Code 3 (1957). Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business
man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends
with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves,
Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in
fountain pen. Corners worn and creased. Otherwise, Fine
condition.
