Handwritten, signed letter from the author and journalist thanking an acquaintance for their response to a previously asked question of his, going on to briefly speak about a mistake made in the Daily News. Extremely rare!
Autograph letter signed: "Richard Whiteing", in black ink, 4½x3½. January 10, 1912. In full: "Dear Sir Many thanks to you for your kind [illegible] as to my inquiry. Was a mistake of mine of [illegible] the paragraph appeared is the Daily News of the [illegible]. Very truly yours". Richard Whiteing (1840-1928) was an English author and journalist, first pursuing journalism in the 1860's. Whiteing wrote for the Evening Star and Morning Star before joining the staff of more widespread papers like Manchester Guardian and The New York World. He published his first novel in 1876, under a pseudonym, but didn't receive recognition until 1899 with No. 5 John Street. Other works include The Yellow Van (1903) and All Moonshine (1907). Toned. Corners lightly worn and creased. Slightly soiled. Ink and pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
