Still from the 1958 film, The Tunnel of Love, which starred Widmark as August "Augie" Poole and Doris Day (also pictured) as Isolde Poole. Mimeographed caption on verso: "SEALED WITH A KISS....Richard Widmark has a better way of closing a deal than the customary handshake, as he demonstrates with Doris Day in 'THE TUNNEL OF LOVE'. 'THE TUNNEL OF LOVE', Joseph Fields' production for MGM release, is the saucy, spicy, sin-copating story of a suburban couple who adopt a baby girl and fall heirs to a bundle of mirthful misunderstandings. Doris Day, Richard Widmark, Gig Young and Gia Scala head the cast. Gene Kelly directs from Fields' adaptation of his Broadway hit, with Marty Melcher co-producing." In 1958, Widmark was also seen on the big screen in The Law and Jake Wade. Originally a popular radio actor, Widmark (1914-2008, born in Sunrise, Minnesota) moved to films in 1947, first in villainous roles and later as a leading man. He was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his debut film, The Kiss of Death (1947), and the N.Y. Film Critics Circle named him Best Actor for The Bedford Incident (1965). A latecomer to TV, Widmark reprised the detective character Madigan (1972-1973) from an earlier movie. His daughter, Anne Heath Widmark, whose mother was Widmark's first wife, Jean Hazelwood, married legendary baseball player Sandy Koufax in 1969. Slightly creased at blank corners. Minor surface scratches (not evident head on). Otherwise in fine condition.
