RICHARD WIDMARK
Signed British picture postcard of Widmark from the chest up in suit-and-tie
Inscribed picture postcard signed "For Mr. & Mrs. Smith/Sincerely/Richard Widmark". B/w, 3½x5½. British postcard, captioned at lower margin and on verso. Not filled in or stamped on verso. Originally a popular radio actor, Widmark (1914-2008, born in Sunrise, Minnesota) moved to films in 1947, first in villainous roles and later as a leading man. He was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his debut film, The Kiss of Death (1947), and the N.Y. Film Critics Circle named him Best Actor for The Bedford Incident (1965). A latecomer to TV, Widmark reprised the detective character Madigan (1972-1973) from an earlier movie. His daughter, Anne Heath Widmark, whose mother was Widmark's first wife, Jean Hazelwood, married legendary baseball player Sandy Koufax in 1969. Adequate contrast. Slightly creased and worn at upper left corner. Slightly soiled on verso. Otherwise in fine condition.
