RICHIE HAVENS
Famed musician is shown in black and white photograph lightheartedly smiling with his acoustic guitar.
Inscribed Photograph Signed: "To Carl/ a friend forever/ Health Peace/ Richie Havens" B/w, 8x10. American guitarist and folk singer Richie Havens (1941-2013) arrived in Greenwich Village in 1961, and was immediately recognized as a talent in the emerging folk music craze. He landed a record deal with Verve Forecast label and released Mixed Bag (1967). Havens' album Something Else Again (1968) would be his first album to make the Billboard chart, also bringing fame back to his earlier work. It would be his opening performance at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 that would boost his career even further. Following the success of his performance, Havens began his own record label called Stormy Forest. He released Stonehenge(1970) which was his first album to reach Billboards Top 30 Charts. Some of his hits include his own compositions, like "Freedom", and popular renditions of songs by the Beatles ("Here Comes the Sun"), and Bob Dylan ("Just Like a Woman"). Havens was diverse in talent, making appearances in film, on stage, on television, and being published as well. Dedicated to making the world a better place, Havens was the twentieth living recipient of the Peace Abbey Courage of Conscience Award (1991), and was later inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame (2006). He continued to perform, and astonish fans with his rhythmic folk style music until 2012, when he announced that he would stop touring after 45 years due to health issues. Fine condition.
