"John Martin/#23" and others, 5 pages, 8x5. A collection of basketball names, probably gathered at a tryout camp. Several famous names are included, as are names of little known college players (John Martin of Texas State, Jason Scott of U. of Maryland/Eastern Shore. The famous names include: John Havlicek (1940-2019), the personification of Boston Celtics tradition, played his entire NBA career (1962-1978) with the Celtics. "Hondo" played on eight NBA championship teams (1963-1966, 1968-1969, 1974, 1976) and made 13 consecutive All-Star teams. He scored more points for the Celtics over his career than Bill Russell, Larry Bird, or Paul Pierce, more than any player in the team's history. He entered the Hall of Fame in 1984. Hall of Fame forward Rick Barry (b. 1944) is the only player ever to lead the NCAA, NBA, and ABA in scoring. His name appears near the top of every all-time offensive list. He scored more than 25,000 points in his professional career and in four different seasons averaged more than 30 points. He was named to 12 All-Star teams, four All-NBA First Teams, and five All-ABA First Teams. After his career ended, Barry became a broadcaster. After several seasons at the mic, he drifted out of the public spotlight in the mid-1980s. In the early 1990s Barry resurfaced as a minor league coach. He began in the Global Basketball Association, then moved on to the CBA's Fort Wayne Fury. In 1996, he was named to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. Wayne Embry (b. 1937) played 11 NBA seasons (1959-1969) with the Cincinnati Royals, Boston Celtics, and Milwaukee Bucks, making the All-Star team 5 times and helping the 1968 Celtics to a championship. In 1971, he became the first African-American general manager in the NBA (with the Milwaukee Bucks). Leonard "Lenny" Wilkins (1937-2025) is the only person to be elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame as an NBA player and coach. He played on the St. Louis Hawks (1960-1968), Seattle Supersonics (1968-1972), Cleveland Cavaliers (1972-1974) and Portland Trail Blazers (1974-1975) and averaged 16.5 points, 6.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game. He was also head coach of the Supersonics (player/coach 1969-1972, coach 1977-1985), Trail Blazers (player/coach 1974-75, coach 1975-76), Cavaliers (1986-1993), Atlanta Hawks (1993-2000) and Toronto Raptors (2000-2003). Paul Silas (1943-2022) set the NCAA record for most rebounds over three seasons at Creighton University, with 20.6 boards per game in 1963. He carried this over into the NBA. In his 16 seasons of professional ball (1964-80), he led the NBA in offensive rebounds once (1975-6), was a two-time All-Star (1972, 1975) and played on three championship teams (Boston Celtics 1974, 1976; Seattle Supersonics, 1979). Silas was also a coach with the San Diego Clippers, Charlotte Hornets, New Orleans Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers, compiling a 355-400 coaching record. John "Hot Rod" Williams (1962-2015) was a stalwart power forward and center for the Cleveland Cavaliers (1986-1995), Phoenix Suns (1995-1998), and Dallas Mavericks (1999) during his NBA career. He recorded nearly 10,000 points and 6,000 rebounds. Williams is notorious for being charged with sports bribery and conspiracy after allegedly point shaving while in college, when he played for Tulane University.
