page 6, 6p, 8½x11, front and verso. Beverly Hills, California, 1950 November
16. The Nelson brothers hire M C A Artists, Ltd. as ther agent. In part:
"This Agreement, made and entered into at Beverly Hills, California by and
between M C A Artists, Ltd., an artists' manager, hereinafter called the 'Agent'
and Ricky Nelson and David Nelson, jointly and severally, hereinafter called the
'Actor', Witnesseth: (1) The Actor employs the Agent as his agent in the motion
picture industry and the Agent accepts such employment....(2) The term of this
contract shall be for a period of one (1) year, commencing November 16,
1950...(3) (a) The Actor agrees to pay to the Agent as commissions a sum equal
to ten (10) per cent of all moneys or other consideration received by the Actor,
directly or 'indirectly', under contracts of employment...This contract applies
to undersigned Actors jointly and severally." Also signed and
initialed on page 6 by an Agent of M C A Artists, Ltd. At the time this
contract was signed, David had just celebrated his 14th birthday and Rick was
only ten years of age. The year after this contract expired, the brothers would
make their film debut in Meet the Nelsons (1952) which led to the
long-running TV series, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet
(1952-1966). DAVID NELSON (1936-2011) the elder of the two sons born
to Ozzie and Harriet Hilliard Nelson, later became a director (he directed
several episodes of the family sit-com) and producer. David also appeared in
several films and made guest appearances on a number of TV shows. RICK
NELSON (1940-1985) became one of the biggest teen idols of the 1950s
after a number of his songs were introduced on the family TV show. Nelson also
appeared in several feature films and made guest appearances on numerous TV
series in addition to recording and touring. Continuing to perform into the
1980s, he was killed in a plane crash on December 31, 1985 on his way to a New
Year's Eve gig in Dallas. Lightly creased. Stray ink marks at right margin of
first page. Staple holes at upper left corners, 2 file holes at upper margins.
