[FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT]: RICK PARKS
Original oil painting of FDR, signed by artist Parks, framedto an overall size of 42x46
Original Art signed: "Rick Parks". Color, 36x40. Original oil portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt by Nevada artist Rick Parks. Two inset portraits at lower margin depict FDR in a suit and with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin during WWII. Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945), the 32nd President of the U.S., served as President longer than any other man (1933-1945). Roosevelt, who was elected to an unprecedented four terms as President and served for 12 years before dying in office in 1945, led the nation through two of its greatest crises, the Great Depression and WWII. During WWII, FDR met with British Prime Minister Winston S. Churchill 13 times (twice with Stalin also present), including conferences at Casablanca, Teheran (depicted in the inset portrait) and Yalta. Roosevelt had previously served as Governor of New York (1929-1933), Assistant Secretary of the Navy (1913-1920), a post once held by his cousin, Theodore Roosevelt, and as a New York State Senator (1911-1913), and had been a candidate for the Democratic Vice Presidential nomination in 1920. In August 1921, Roosevelt was stricken with infantile paralysis at his summer home in Campobello, New Brunswick, Canada. In April 1926, he bought a resort at Warm Springs, Georgia, where he had been going for exercise and treatment. For Roosevelt, Warm Springs continued to be his one great hope of walking again. By 1928, he was able to discard his crutches and, with the aid of a cane and the occasional arm of a companion skilled in such matters, FDR would swing himself along on iron-braced legs. While President, Roosevelt insisted that he be photographed in active poses that enhanced his image as a strong, vigorous leader. Fine condition. Framed to an overall size of 42¼x46.
