RIGGS STEPHENSON. Questionaire signed: "Riggs Stephenson",
1p, 7x10½. Magazine photo of Stephenson (b/w, 1¾x2½) affixed at top. Stephenson
has handwritten responses to a series of typed questions, as follows: [baseball
hero of his youth] "Ty Cobb"; [position other than OF he would like to
play] "first base"; [favorite major league park] "no favorites";
[favorite sport outside baseball] "Hunting"; [biggest thrill in
baseball] "playing in the World Series"; ["Do you agree with Babe Ruth
that brawls should be tolerated and club hatred worked up to help gate
receipts?] "This is a hard question to answer." An arm injured playing
football for the University of Alabama hindered his defense, but Stephenson
(1898-1985) played 14 Major League seasons (1921-1934) with the Indians and
Cubs because of his strong hitting. His career batting average was
.336! Lightly soiled. Reinforced binder holes at left edge. Corners clipped.
Horizontal folds. Mounting paper remnants on verso show through faintly in
corners. Shaded area (2x3) in upper right, touching four handwritten words.
Otherwise, fine condition.
