RILEY HILL
Black and white 8x10 photograph signed as Roy Harris, the western actor's birth name.
Extremely rare!
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Joe -/Always your pal/Roy Harris/(Fort Worth, Tex.). B/w,
8x10. Riley Hill (born as Roy Harris in 1914) appeared in supporting roles in dozens of
westerns of the 1940s, especially in the films of Johnny Mack Brown. He usually played a
villain, but sometimes played a good guy, even ending up with the girl as in Law of the
Panhandle (1950). (Brown often left the romantic subplot to his younger co-stars.) Other
major films that the actor performed in include Rio Bravo(1959), Sheriff of Cimarron
(1945), and The Last Hard Men (1976). In the 1950s, Hill made the transition to
television and had a recurring role in the only live television Western, Marshal of
Gunsight Pass (1950). In later years, he played crusty old characters in films like The Trial
of Billy Jack (1974) and When You Comin' Back Red Ryder (1979). Lightly toned. Corners
slightly worn. Surface creases (not visible head-on). Otherwise, fine condition.
