Handwritten letter to a friend, happy with her family's move to Los Angeles
Autograph Letter signed: "Rita, Leonard & Nandy Gordon" (in Rita's hand), 5¼x5¼ card folded, 10½x5¼ unfolded, printed on the outside "Moved." 215 So. Bristol Ave., Los Angeles, California, 1977 December 22. To "Charlie ! -", in full: "Happy holiday! We think of you often, and with affection. Now that we're here we can't imagine why we waited so long. The Gordon's flourish. Be well & let us hear from you." Musical actress Rita Moreno spent the first 15 years of her film career (beginning when she was 14) playing small parts. Then in 1961, she won an Academy Award for West Side Story, the first Hispanic woman to win an Oscar. Moreno has since appeared in such films as Marlowe (1969), Carnal Knowledge (1971) and The Four Seasons (1981). On television, she starred in the sitcom 9 to 5 (1982-1983) and won Emmys in 1977 for The Muppet Show, and The Rockford Files (1978). Moreno is one of only a dozen entertainers to have won all four: an Oscar, an Emmy, a Tony (for The Ritz, 1975), and a Grammy (for the PBS children's show The Electric Company, and she did it in the shortest span of time (16 years). Moreno was married to cardiologist Lenny Gordon from 1965 until his death in 2010. Her daughter Fernanda is a noted jewelry designer (Nandiz Design). Pencil note (unknown hand) below signature (not affecting signature). Otherwise, fine condition.
