Valens signs the label of a demo record that was never released as a single.
Record signed on label: "Yours Truly,/Ritchie Valens". "'Rocking All Night'/vocal by/Ritchie
Valens". 10-inch diameter record on Del-Fi label. Del-Fi Records, Studio City,
California. Record numbered in another hand: "32127". Valens, originally Richard Valenzuela,
was discovered by Del-Fi Records' President Bob Keane when he was 16. "Rocking All
Night", a rockabilly song, was never released as a single; it was just a "demo" record.
It would be sent to radio stations in the hope that it would be played. It did appear on
his first Del-Fi album, Ritchie. "Donna" and its flip side "La Bamba" were recorded for
Del-Fi in 1958. "Donna" quickly rose into the Top 10, resulting in his instant demand
on the concert circuit. The song was released shortly before his death in a plane crash
near Mason City, Iowa, February 3, 1959, at the age of 17. Label lightly soiled, record file
notes in crayon on record. Photograph has surface crease at upper left. Fine condition. Framed
by the Gallery of History, 28¼x28.
