Original Art signed: "Armstrong", 6½x3½. He has drawn Joe, the lead character in his comic strip Jump Start. Drawn on a First Day Cover of a Seasons Greetings stamp, postmarked Evergreen, Colorado, October 19, 1990, 25-cent stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Fine condition. Robb Armstrong (b. 1962) is one of only four syndicated black cartoonists in the US. His Jump Start, a humorous treatment of the life of a middle class African-American family, is largely autobiographical. In 1995, Jump Start received the Wilbur Award from the Religious Public Relations Council for its effective communication of religious issues and values. Armstrong is also art director for a Philadelphia ad agency, and appears often before young audiences as a motivational speaker. Armstrong hopes to create a more realistic picture of black families through his strip, saying "I don't know anybody who's carjacking, playing basketball, rapping. I don't know anybody named Snoop Doggy Dogg." Fine condition.
