ROBERT A. MILLIKAN. Typed Letter signed: "R A. Millikan", 1p, 5¾x8½. On letterhead of California Institute of Technology. Pasadena, California, 1948 May 14. To Gustav Stromberg, Pasadena. In full: "I have just returned and find your letter of April 19th on my desk, along with Miss Howard's reply of April 21st. I was particularly glad to get your brief newspaper article entitled 'My Faith.' I appreciate very much, too, the copy of your book entitled 'The Searchers,' which camd during my absence and which I am looking forward to studying as soon as I can get a little bit of free time, - which may not be as soon as I wish it were because I have got a huge pile of back work that I have got to catch up with first. Cordially yours." Physicist Robert A Millikan determined the charge on the electron (1909), then confirmed Einstein's quantum photoelectric equation. For his work he won the 1923 Nobel Prize in Physics. In 1925, he coined the term "cosmic rays". Faint erasure at top edge. Pinhole in blank lower margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
