album leaf.
Autograph Sentiment signed: "Yours sincerely/R. B.
Mantell/1897", 7x4 album leaf. Also signed on verso: "Alex.
Guilmant/Minneapolis 4 Fevrier [February] 1898". ROBERT BRUCE
MANTELL (1854-1928) was a Scottish-born American actor famed for his
Shakespearean roles, especially King Lear. He made his Broadway debut in
Fedora, opposite Fanny Davenport, in 1883, but concentrated on
Shakespeare in later years. At age 61, he made his first silent film in
1915. All his films have been lost except his last one, Under the Red
Robe (1923). French organist and composer ALEXANDRE GUILMANT (1837-1911),
30 years a church organist in Paris, made several US tours, performing
frequently on the famed St Louis exposition organ. His own compositions were
exclusively written for the organ. Guilmant also taught music at the Schola
Cantorum and the Paris Conservatory. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
