ROBERT "BOB" CUMMINGS
Vintage 3½x5½ photograph of the popular film and TV actor, signed the day he started the 1942 film, King's Row
Photograph inscribed and signed: "Thanks/George -/Success to you -/Your friend/Robert/Cummings". B/w, 3½x5½. On verso, Cummings has written in pencil: "started 'King's/Row' to-day". He has signed his notation "Bob" and dated it: "7/24". King's Row, which was nominated for three Academy Awards, was released on April 18, 1942, so Cummings wrote his note on July 24, 1941. In 1941, Cummings was seen on the big screen in four feature films: Free and Easy, The Devil and Miss Jones, Moon Over Miami and It Started With Eve. His other 1942 films were Saboteur and Between Us Girls. Robert "Bob" Cummings (1910-1990), born Charles Clarence Robert Orville Cummings, could handle meaty dramatic roles when they were offered (King's Row, 1942; Dial M for Murder, 1954). His frequent TV work included the hit series, The Bob Cummings Show, which also known as Love That Bob (1955-1959), for which he was nominated for Emmy Awards in 1956, 1957, 1958 and 1959. Cummings was also nominated for an Emmy for his role as Bob S. Beanblossom in My Hero, and he won an Emmy Award for an appearance in "Twelve Angry Men", an episode of the TV anthology series, Studio One. Lightly worn at corners. Minor surface stain at upper left background. Verso bears mimeographed information about the cost of Cummings' photos and mailing. Glue stains on verso at the end of the "b" in Bob and the descender of the "y" in to-day. Otherwise, fine condition.
