ROBERT "BOB" CUMMINGS
The actor signs a document (imprinted in both English and Japanese) for his salary of 63,000 yen per week for co-starring in the 1962 comedy, My Geisha.
Document Signed: "Bob Cummings", 1p, 4¾x6½. No place, 1961 January 30-February 5. Weekly pay slip imprinted in English and Japanese. Used during the filming of the Paramount film, My Geisha, the form lists Cummings' job title as "Cast". Cummings was paid 63,000 Yen per week for his work. In this romantic comedy, in theaters in 1962, Cummings plays the co-star of a production of Madam Butterfly. He falls in love with Shirley MacLaine, an actress posing as a Japanese geisha, who is actually married to the production's unwitting director, played by Yves Montand. Known primarily as a comic actor in films from the early 1930s, Robert "Bob" Cummings (1910-1990), born Charles Clarence Robert Orville Cummings, could handle meaty dramatic roles when they were offered (King's Row, 1942; Dial M for Murder, 1954). His frequent TV work included the hit series, The Bob Cummings Show, which also known as Love That Bob (1955-1959), for which he was nominated for Emmy Awards in 1956, 1957, 1958 and 1959. Cummings was also nominated for an Emmy for his role as Bob S. Beanblossom in My Hero, and he won an Emmy Award for an appearance in "Twelve Angry Men", an episode of the TV anthology series, Studio One. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Slightly soiled. Staple holes and two file holes at upper blank margin, ½x¼-inch paper loss at mid-upper edge from removal of staple. Usual black marks from photocopying at right and lower edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
