ROBERT (BOB) LEWIS
A sentiment from the prolific and respected Broadway director and producer
Autograph Sentiment Signed: "Love/Bob Lewis", 4¼x2. A prolific force in the theatre world, Robert Lewis (1909-1997) was an actor, director, producer, and teacher in theatre and Broadway for almost 70 years. One of the original members of New York's Group Theatre, Lewis began his career acting in plays, beginning with a role in The Living Corpse (1929). He continued to perform as an actor for several years until directing the 1941 play Five Alarm Waltz. He would go on to direct and produce more prominently from then on, being nominated for a Tony in 1963 for Strange Interlude. Lewis was well regarded as one of Broadway's best directors, and tried a transition to film, but ultimately found it boring and uninspiring. In 1991, Lewis was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame, with Kent State University establishing the Robert Lewis Lifetime Achievement award in his honor. Ink marks on right margin. Irregularly cut. Lightly toned. Ink print on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
