Collection including: 1) Typed Letter signed: "Bob Adams" for National Advertising Company, 2 pages, 8½x11. North Hollywood, California, 1975 November 12. On company letterhead to Disneyland, Inc., Anaheim, California. In part: "We are pleased to submit our proposal to provide a double faced painted display with the following specifications." Following are detailed measurements and material specifications for a welcoming Mickey Mouse, with an itemized cost estimated at $16, 431. The letter concludes, "Precise quote will be given upon receipt of approved engineering." Staple holes at upper left corner. Paperclip crease upper margin. Normal mailing fold creases. Otherwise, fine condition. 2) Photograph, unsigned. B/w, 10x8. Photo shows the parking entrance to the Disneyland Hotel, with the hotel in the background. With red colored pencil, someone has drawn a range of 59' over the entry way where the billboard is projected to hang. Fine condition. 3) Two printed schematic architectural drawings of the projected billboard, to overhang a projected ticket booth. 24x18. Horizontal and vertical folds. Toned at creases.The original Disneyland theme park opened on July 17, 1955, but has undergone constant reconstruction. National Advertising Company, until 1997 a subsidiary of 3M Corporation, was one of the nation's foremost billboard companies. In a well known court case, National Advertising Company v City of Orange, California (1987), finally decided in the US 9th Court of Appeals, found the city's selective ban on billboards unconstitutional.
