5 (date in Wilson's hand). In full: "Best wishes to a talented California
transplant." Wilson's business card, unsigned, 3½x1¾, affixed beneath
writing. Photograph, unsigned, b/w, 2¼x2½, affixed at lower margin. Three
magazine photographs of baseball players, unsigned, affixed to verso. Robert
Carlton "Bob" Wilson (1916-1999) was a Republican U.S. Congressman from
California from 1953-1981. After entering politics by campaigning for Dwight
D. Eisenhower in 1952, Wilson was chosen as the Republican candidate for the
newly created 30th Congressional District, which included San Diego,
California. Swept into office on Eisenhower's landslide, Wilson would be
re-elected 13 times. A popular Congressman, he was a major spokesman for
the defense industry, and Wilson served on the House Armed Services
Committee from 1959 until retiring in 1981. He was also Chairman of the
National Republican Congressional Committee from 1968 until his retirement.

lines of writing. Mounting remnant at upper margin of verso (no show through).
Ink number (unknown hand) at lower right corner of signature side and lower
right corner of verso. Irregular left edge from removal from bound book.
