Robert Clarke (1920-2005) became an RKO contract player in the mid-1940s,
making his debut in The Falcon in Hollywood (1944). By the 1950s, he was
a "B" movie star. (His autobiography is titled To 'B' or Not to 'B'.)
While some of his roles were conventional action films, including the title
role in Tales of Robin Hood (1952), his true calling turned out to be
monster films and other SF movies: The Man from Planet X (1950),
Captive Women (1952), The Astounding She Monster (1958). In
1959, the same year he starred in the film shown here, Clarke produced, directed
and starred (as the monster) in The Hideous Sun Demon, now a cult
favorite. (It has been re-released with new dialogue under the title,
What's Up, Hideous Sun Demon?) Although he continued to play more
conventional roles on TV, including multiple episodes of Dragnet, Clarke
found new fans as the old SF "classics" were discovered by a new generation. He
was a guest speaker and honored guests at fan gatherings in his later
years. Small stains on verso. Fine condition.
