ROBERT EVANS
The film producer and former head of Paramount Pictures signs this First Day Cover honoring 50 years of talking pictures
First day cover signed: "Robert Evans" in blue felt. 6½x3½. First Day Cover honoring the 50th Anniversary Year of Talking Pictures, postmarked Hollywood, California, October 6, 1977. 13c. stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Robert Evans (b. 1930) is an American film producer and former studio executive, best known for his work on Rosemary's Baby, Love Story, The Godfather and Chinatown. He made his film debut as an actor in Man of a Thousand Faces in 1957, then later in The Sun Also Rises. After becoming dissatisfied with his acting talent he got his start as head of production at Paramount Pictures by purchasing the rights to a 1966 novel titled The Detective, which he made into a movie in 1968. Despite his inexperience, Evans was able to turn the studio around. He was responsible for making Paramount the most successful studio in Hollywood and transformed it into a very profitable enterprise for Gulf and Western. After the huge critical and commercial success of the Evans-produced Chinatown, he stepped down as production chief, which enabled him to produce films on his own. He went on to produce such films as Marathon Man, Black Sunday, Urban Cowboy, The Cotton Club, Sliver, The Phantom, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Toned. Corners rounded. Light creases on left margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
