(born in 1916) of the SUNY Health Center, Brooklyn was co-recipient with Louis
Ignarro and Ferid Murad of the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1998 for
"discoveries concerning nitric oxide as a signaling molecule in the
cardiovascular system." Nitric oxide, they discovered, tells blood vessels to
relax and widen, an effect which can help control blood pressure and combat male
