ROBERT F. KENNEDY Letter signed as US Senator, regarding legislation favored by the president of a New York radio station Typed Letter signed: "Bob" as US Senator, 1 page, 6x9. Washington, D.C., 1967 July 11. On his personal Senate letterhead to Harry M. Thayer, President of WCC Radio, Kingston, New York. In full: "My thanks for your letter enclosing a copy of your letter to Congressman Dowdy concerning H. R. 509. I appreciate knowing of your support for this bill. There has been no action taken on it as yet in the House, but should it reach the Senate floor, I will give it my sympathetic consideration." Robert Francis Kennedy (1925-1968) made a name for himself as Chief Counsel of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Improper Activities in Labor or Management Field (1957-1960), investigating such labor leaders as Jimmy Hoffa. He left the office to successfully manage his brother John's successful presidential campaign in 1960. Named as JFK's Attorney General in 1961, Robert worked closely with his brother on such critical issues as the Bay of Pigs invasion, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Civil Rights movement. After JFK's assassination, Robert served as President Lyndon B. Johnson's Attorney General from 1963-1964, although his relations with LBJ were always strained. Elected as a U.S. Senator from New York in 1964, "Bobby" served from 1965 until he was assassinated in Los Angeles in June 1968, just moments after declaring victory in the California presidential primary. Multiple mailing folds. Lightly toned. Left edge frayed. Otherwise, fine condition. Previously authenticated by PSA/DNA.
