Fizdale handwrote, signed and dated this letter - actually two letters on one sheet - to Frank Peschka and Bill Murdock, founders of New York City's Little Players theatre company, in 1979. In the first, he raves about a performance by the Little Players. In the second, dated one day later, Fizdale writes about a "Moment de panique!" that he had about a check that he sent to Peschka and Murdock.
Autograph letter signed " Arthur&/Bobby." 2 pages, 7¾x9¾, 1 sheet, front and verso, on thin blue paper. Consists of two separate letters, dated Feb. 25, 1979 and Feb. 26, 1979. Feb. 25 letter in full: "Dear Ones Both Last night is etched in our memories in a long line of beautiful evenings each of which glows with its own special beauty and the added lustre reflected by its fellow gems. You are fantastic! As you could see all our guests loved it! You have won many new hearts.". Feb. 25 letter in full: "Moment de panique! Reassured by your phone info. I was afraid I'd dropped the checks in the taxi. I trust the amount was correct. I deducted us and Bernie as 'members'. Now I'm embarrassed to think that when you found the checks you must have imagined that I had left them there intentionally, so openly! so vulgarly!! so carelessly!!! That was not the case. All love! from". Lightly toned, creased and rippled. Light show-through from both sides, which touches handwriting and signature. Otherwise in fine condition. Accompanied by: Original mailing envelope, signed "Fizdale" in return address on flap. Postmarked New York City, Feb. 26, 1979. Hand-addressed by Fizdale to "Messers Peschka & Murdock", New York City. With one 13¢ violet-and-white Oliver Wendell Holmes stamp affixed. Lightly toned and creased. Random ink stains. Envelope was cut open at top. Otherwise in fine condition. FRANK PESCHKA and BILL MURDOCK werefounders of New York City's Little Players theatre company. ROBERT FIZDALE (1920-1995, born in Chicago, Illinois) and ARTHUR GOLD (1917-1990, born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) met while students at Juilliard. The partners helped transform the duo-piano repertory by commissioning and performing many new works. They appeared on a stage and on a number of recordings and were nominated for a 1963 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance. Fizdale and Gold also authored the book, The Divine Sarah (1991), a biography of Sarah Bernhardt, the first international superstar.
