ROBERT FIZDALE
Fizdale handwrote, signed and dated this letter from Water Mill, New
York to Frank Peschka and Bill Murdock, founders of New York City's Little
Players theatre company, in 1978. In it, he gushes about the Little Players and
how the thought of their performances moved him to tears while writing this
letter.
Autograph letter signed "Bobby./AND Arthur!!!" in blue ink. 2
pages, 7x8¾, 1 sheet, front and verso. Water Mill, New York. April 12, 1978.
Addressed to "Ones Both". In full: "Dear Ones Both - Every
evening we've ever spent with you has been unforgettable but the birthday
evening was more unforgettable than ever. The joy you give the world is
incredible. When we rave to friends who've never seen the Little Players and
then say we mustn't say too much as nothing can lineup to what we're saying and
then - after their first visit - we hear them say nothing you said prepared us
for the miracle of this - well, that's rather fun I must say But when, like only
the very greatest art, your great great art reveals its miracle afresh each time
we say [sic] you we think, well, with all that can be difficult in life
it's a great privilege to be alive in New York City in the great period of its
cultural history, that is when the Little Players are there. Dearest Boys, we
know the teamwork that goes into what you two do, and the work and that love and
that is why it's so overwhelmingly beautiful. It is 6:30 AM and Arthur has just
come downstairs saying let's go for the morning paper and finding me in tears as
I write to you, adds 'Isn't it a bit early in the morning for this?' and then
says 'Oh! you must be writing to Frank and Bill!' They are tears of pleasure for
what you give us. We know, through you, what 'All Love' means. All love".
