In it, he compliments them on their performances. He also included a letter - addressed to Fizdale and his partner Arthur Gold from Edward Johnson - that also praised the Little Players. With original mailing envelope.
Autograph letter signed "Arthur, Arthur/and/Bob". 1 page, 8½x10¾, with three binder holes near left edge. May 21, 1958. Addressed to "Frank and Bill and all the Little Players". In full: "Dear Frank and Bill and all the Little Players - We leave on Sunday for Europe and we want you to know once again that your performances for us were the most beautiful events of our year. We shall all miss you all. The enclosed letter is from Edward Johnson (signed Eduardo as we often speak Italian with him) I thought you might like to 'file it'. With much love to all of you from". Postmarked with Rome, Italy address. Lightly toned and creased. Light tears at right edge. Discoloration at top edge, which does nto touch handwriting or signature. Binder holes are lightly torn. Folded once horizontally and twice vertically. Lightly torn along folds at edges. Otherwise in fine condition. Accompanied by two items: 1) Autograph letter signed "Eduardo". New York City, April 27, 1958. Addressed to Fizdale and Arthur Gold. In part: "It was a memorable evening and the 'Little Players' were out of this world. The participating artists must have found us a very responsive audience. My compliments and thanks to them and my warmest expressions of appreciation to you both." Lightly toned and creased. Light show-through from both sides, which touches handwriting and signature. Random ink stains. Folded thrice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition. 2) Original mailing envelope. With imprinted Columbia Artist Management Inc. return address crossed out and signed "Robert Fizdale" in autograph return address. Postmarked New York City, May 22, 1988. Hand-addressed by Fizdale to "Mr. Frank Peschka/Mr. Bill Murdock/& the Little Players", New York City. With one 3¢ purple-and-white stamp affixed. Lightly toned and creased. Flap was neatly torn open at top. Rust stain from paper clip on right edge. Corners are lightly rounded. Otherwise in fine condition. FRANK PESCHKA and BILL MURDOCK were founders of New York City's Little Players theatre company. ROBERT FIZDALE (1920-1995, born in Chicago, Illinois) and ARTHUR GOLD (1917-1990, born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) met while students at Juilliard. The partners helped transform the duo-piano repertory by commissioning and performing many new works. They appeared on a stage and on a number of recordings and were nominated for a 1963 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance. Fizdale and Gold also authored the book, The Divine Sarah (1991), a biography of Sarah Bernhardt, the first international superstar.
