(1973), in which he played the role of the Sheriff
Photograph signed: "Robert J. Wilke", in black ink, b/w, 10x8. Photographic still from The
Boy Who Cried Werewolf (1973), a horror movie starring Kerwin Mathews and directed
by Nathan H. Juran. Wilke portrays the skeptical local sheriff in the film. Robert J. Wilke
(1914-1989) was an American film and television actor known as the "no-named bad guy" in
many popular Westerns. Beginning as a stuntman in 1930s, Wilke picked up his first acting
role in the film San Francisco (1936). With his deeply lined face, heavy stature, and mean
scowl, Wilke played villains in nearly every Western on television, including Gunsmoke
(1958-1967), Bonanza (1960-1969), Rawhide (1961-1963) and Wagon Train (1960-1963).
Of his 299 movie and television credits, Wilke's most famous movie is High Noon (1952),
in which he played one of the "three men waiting at the station." Lightly toned. Creasing
along left edge. Bowed. Top left edge scuffed. Otherwise, fine condition.
