Rare candid photograph of the husband and wife acting duo, signed by each near their respective image (3¼x4½). Extremely rare signature from Allwyn!
Photograph signed: "Robert Kent", "Astrid Allwyn", B/w 3¼x4½. Signatures ink faded, only visible by impression in light. Former boxer Robert Kent (1908-1955) starred in many adventure B-movies, such as the Zane Grey story King of the Royal Mounted (1936). He starred in several films of the 1940's, including The Phantom Creeps, Who's Guilty?, and The Phantom Rider. He was sometimes cast using his birth name, Douglas Blackley, Jr. Kent was married to actress Astrid Allwyn from 1937 to 1941, appearing in the 1936 Shirley Temple film Dimples together. ASTRID ALLWYN (1905-1978) first acted on the stage, appearing in several New York Stock companies before making her Broadway debut in Street Scene (1929). She began appearing in film in the 1930's, often cast as a woman cast off by the male lead. Films Allwyn appeared in include Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), Love Affair (1939), and Hands Across the Table (1935). She retired from film in 1943. Corners lightly worn and creased. Slightly toned. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Signatures completely faded, only visible in light. Slightly bowed.
