Typed letter signed: "Robert L. Cohn", in blue ink. 1 page, 8½x11. Columbia Pictures Corporation letterhead. Hollywood 28, California. Dated August 20. 1954. Letter to the Friars Club of California, Inc. In full: "Gentlemen: In view of the fact that I am leaving Hollywood for an indefinite period of time to reside abroad, please accept my resignation from the Club as of this day. It is with great regret that I leave the Friars Organization. However, if at any time in the future I shall return to Hollywood, I will again apply for membership. With every good wish- Sincerely, Robert L. Cohn" Robert Leon Cohn (1920-1996) was a film producer for Columbia Pictures Inc. and oversaw production management. Cohn was the son and nephew of the of co-founders of Columbia Pictures and received his first producer credit for The Main Event (1938) at the age of 18. Throughout his career, Cohn turned out several successful films, including The Killer That Stalked New York (1950), The Interns (1962) and The Barefoot Mailman (1951). His documentary Young Americans won an Academy Award in 1969, but the award was revoked after the Academy found out that the film had been released too early to be eligible. Devastated by the loss, Cohn immediately quit show business and left California to live abroad and out of the industry. Creases in top left corner. Edges lightly worn. Staple holes in top left corner, not affecting signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
