The actress signs on a 3x4¾ original art piece, drawn but unsigned by
Robert L. Whittington
Original art signed: "Adele Astaire", 3x4¾ affixed to a card
(2 surfaces). In a double act with her brother, Fred Astaire (1899-1987),
Adele Astaire (1898-1981) danced in cabarets, vaudeville houses
and music halls worldwide, and they headlined one New York stage hit after
another in the 1920s. Their only film together was 1915's Fanchon, the
Cricket, starring Mary Pickford, and their first major Broadway
success was Over the Top in 1917. When Adele married British Lord
Charles Cavendish in 1931, Fred found himself soloing for the first time,
and he would go on to a successful film career. Pen and ink drawing by Robert
L. Whittington, who sketched celebrities from the Golden Age of
Hollywood. The artist does not sign this piece. Card lightly creased. Toned.
