The actor signs on a 3½x6½ original art piece,
drawn but unsigned by Robert L. Whittington.
Original art signed: "Matheson Lang./[paraph]", 3½x6½ affixed
to a card (2 surfaces). Canadian-born actor Matheson Lang (1879-1948)
made his film debut in 1916's The Merchant of Venice, and he would go on
to appear in films until 1936 (The Cardinal). His credits include
Guy Fawkes (1923, starring role), The King's Highway (1927),
The Triumph of the Scarlet Pimpernel (1928), Drake of
England (1935, starring role) and Royal Cavalcade (1935). Lang also
wrote the play on which the 1940 film, The Chinese
Bungalow, was based as well as another play, Sirocco,
which was the basis for two film versions of Carnival (1921 and 1931).
Pen and ink drawing by Robert L. Whittington, who sketched celebrities
from the Golden Age of Hollywood. The artist does not sign this piece. Upper
edge of mounting sheet is lightly creased. Toned. Fine
condition.
