Check no. 16, drawn on his account at the Wilts & Dorset Banking Company Limited, payable to Budden & Son for £1.2. Known for his adventurous tales, Stevenson was an avid traveler who had begun writing in his teens. His first successful novel, Treasure Island (1883), was written for his stepson, Lloyd; it was originally entitled The Sea-Cook and appeared in serialized form in Young Folks (1881-1882) - a paper for young boys. The Scottish writer demonstrated his aptitude for poetry when he wrote A Child's Garden of Verses (1885). In 1889, Stevenson and his family moved to Samoa, an island in the South Seas, where the natives nicknamed him Tusitala, the teller of tales. His other famous novels include Kidnapped (1886) and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886). Several areas lightly toned from tape remnants on verso, one touching "n" of signature. Cancellation strokes touch "Rob" and "Ste" of signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
