Autograph letter signed: "Robert Merrill" on verso of 5½x3½ picture postcard. Mexico City, no date. Postmark illegible, but three Mexican stamps affixed. Color illustration of a bull and matador on front. Addressed in Merrill's hand to: "Mr. Jimmy Starr/Herald & Express/1243 Trenton/Los Angeles,/California/USA". In full: "Dear Jimmy, Just a note to say that my appearance here in Mexico City with the Opera is a great experience. In the 'Barber of Seville' opening night, I had to repeat the 'Figaros' Aria for the first time in my career. My friend Bill O Dwyer was there to yell Bravo. I sing Rigoletto next Saturday & Tuesday. I hope your summer is a very pleasant one. With my fondest regards." Popular operatic baritone ROBERT MERRILL (1919-2004) debuted with New York's Metropolitan Opera in 1945 and sang his 500th opera there in 1973. He made many radio and television performances and appeared in a few films. JIMMY STARR was a Hollywood screenwriter, publicist, press agent and gossip columnist.
