ROBERT MITCHUM, DOROTHY MITCHUM and REVA FREDERICK
The actor and his wife, and secretary Reva Frederick, vote to elect
themselves officers of the Dorlite Corporation. Frederick, Mitchum's personal
secretary, was embezzling millions!
Document signed: "Robert Mitchum", "Dorothy Mitchum", "Reva
Frederick", 1 page, 8½x11. No place, 1967 October 10. As the only
Directors of Dorlite, a California Corporation, the signatories waive the
holding of an annual meeting and assent to the election of officers: Robert
Mitchum as President and Treasurer; Dorothy Mitchum as Vice President and
Assistant Secretary; Reva Frederick as Vice President and Secretary. ROBERT
MITCHUM (1917-1997) played mostly villains early in his film career,
including Out of the Past (1947) and Cape Fear (1962). In 1945,
he starred in The Story of G.I. Joe and earned his first and only Oscar
nomination. He also portrayed detective Phillip Marlowe in Farewell My
Lovely (1975) and The Big Sleep (1978), and starred in the TV
miniseries The Winds of War (1983) and its sequel, War and
Remembrance (1989). Mitchum was a drifter of uncertain occupation when he
met and then married Dorothy Spence on March 15, 1940. They had three
children. Robert Mitchum took up acting to support his family, graduating from
bit parts during World War II to postwar stardom as "the embodiment of film
noir" (Roger Ebert). DOROTHY MITCHUM (b. 1920) appeared in one film,
1949's The Big Steal, starring her husband. Mitchum fired his personal
secretary, REVA FREDERICK, when he closed his office in 1981. Frederick sued for
what she claimed was a verbal agreement from 1961 to pay her a pension. She
dropped the suit in the face of evidence that she had embezzled millions of
dollars from Mitchum over the years. Mitchum declined to prosecute. Stressed
by these developments, Frederick suffered a stroke from which she never fully
recovered. Frederick outlived Robert Mitchum, however, and extracted a
measure of revenge as a source for Lee Server's unflattering biography, Baby
I Don't Care (2001). Binding holes at left edge. Lightly toned.
Otherwise, fine condition.
