Depicted in his Tony Award-winning role of J. Pierpont Finch, which Morse originated on Broadway and reprised in the 1967 big screen musical comedy.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To the Students/of Nathaniel/Hawthorne J.H.S./Robert Morse/[paraph]". B/w, 8x10. Shown in his Tony Award-winning role as ambitious window cleaner, J. Pierpont Finch, who joins a multi-national company, working in the mail room. He rises to Vice-President in Charge of Advertising (using sneaky and dubious means) and slowly falls in love with secretary Rosemary Pilkington. Morse, who won the 1962 Tony Award for Best Actor (Musical) for originating the role on Broadway, reprised the role in the 1967 film version, singing his memorable signature song, "I Believe In You" (which he sang in the mirror to himself). Born in 1931, Robert Morse made his film debut in 1956's Proud and the Profane. He was more successful on Broadway, co-starring in the musicals Say Darling and Take Me Along. In 1990, Morse returned to Broadway (and won another Tony Award) for his one-man Truman Capote show, Tru. He has also been nominated for three additional Tonys, and Morse has also appeared in several made-for-TV movies and miniseries, and he has made guest appearances on numerous TV series. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners, ¾-inch paper scuff at upper right margin and background. Minor surface creases and striations (most not evident head on), some at facial image. Overall, fine condition.
