Color and b/w, 8x11, 44 pages. 1970-71 program for the Jan. 25, 1971 New York Metropolitan Opera subscription performance of Strauss's Die Frau ohne Schatten at Lincoln Center Plaza. Nagy was the Emperor, Rysanek was the Empress, Dunn was the Nurse and Frederica von Stade was one of the Voices of the Unborn. Accompanied by: Ticket stub for this performance stapled to the cast page. NAGY, born in 1929, was a an American tenor. After fighting in the Korean War, he attended the Cleveland Institute of Music and, in 1955, entered the Metropolitan Opera Guild Auditions of the Air. The Met must have liked what they heard, beacuse they invited him to New York to study. He debuted as Giuseppe in Verdi's La Traviata and became a lead singer and soloist after ten years of study. Nagy sang with the Met from 1957 to 1988 and performed over a thou. He is now retired. RYSANEK (1926-1998, born Leopoldine Rysanek in Vienna, Austria) was an Austrian dramatic soprano. She made her professional debut in 1949 and debuted at the Met as Lady Macbeth in 1959 (replacing Maria Callas). Rysanek performed in over 2,100 performances, including over 200 performances at the Met, and was especially known for portraying heroines in the operas of Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner. She retired from the Met in 1996 and retired from performing later that year at the Salzburg Festival. VON STADE (born in Somerville, New Jersey in 1945) is an American mezzo-soprano. She debuted with the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1970 and debuted at the Santa Fe Opera in 1971 as Cherubino in Mozart's the Marriage of Figaro. In addition to opera, von Stade has performed music from The Sound of Music, Showboat and other musicals and has performed on PBS specials, including A Carnegie Hall Christmas Concert in 1991. She has also sung with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and was also a featured performer at the 2002 Winter Olympics. DUNN, born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1931, is an American mezzo-soprano. She has performed over 600 times at the New York Metropolitan Opera between 1958 and 1994, beginning with a role as the nurse in Modest Muusorgsky's Boris Godunov. She is now a voice teacher at the Manhattan School of Music as of this biography. Lightly toned. Lightly soiled on back cover. Ticket stub is tearing away from cast page.
