Chicago-born Robert O. Anderson (1917-2007) purchased his first oil refinery in 1941. In 1966, he led the merger that formed Atlantic Richfield, and chaired the corporation for 20 profitable years. Anderson became the largest private landowner in the US, owning2,000 square miles of land. Anderson saved through purchase two well-known publications, Harper's and The Observer, and was a noted philanthropist. He was instrumental in founding several environmental organizations, including Worldwatch and the John Muir Institute. Fine condition.
