Black and white picture post card signed by the vocalist and actor in
blue ink (3½x5½)
Picture post card signed: "Robert Rounseville", in blue ink,
B/w 3½x5½. ¼. American tenor Robert Rounseville (1919-1974) performed in
both opera and Broadway, making his major debut on Broadway in Babes in
Arms in 1937. As the years passed, Rounseville's roles became more
prominent in plays like The Merry Widow (1943), Robin Hood
(1944), and Brigadoon (1957). In 1951, he starred in The Tales
of Hoffmann, the first color opera film to use cinematic techniques.
This was followed by a major role in Carousel as Mr. Enoch Snow.
He continued to perform until his death, making his last major appearance in
1972 in Man of La Mancha. Ink skipped in some areas. Ink notes
(unknown hand) on verso. Corners slightly worn. Slight surface creases and dents
(not seen head on). Signature in poor contrast, but clearly legible. Otherwise,
fine condition.
