When I was a child my family moved to Brownwood, Texas, where I attended public schools and Howard Payne College. My first experience was in public utilities accounting, with the Santa Fe Railroad, the Texas Power & Light Company, and the First National Bank of Streetwater, Texas…" Robert S. Calvert (1892-1981) was the longest serving Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (1949-1975). A public bigot, he called Congress woman Eddie Bernice Johnson a "[Explicit] woman who doesn't know what she is talking about" when she filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 1973. The following year, Bob Bullock challenged him for his seat, promising reform of the office operations. His aggressive campaign scared Calvert out of the races, and Bullock went on to serve four consecutive terms. Creased edges. Ink notes (unknown hand ) on verso. Fine condition.
