ROBERT SHAYNE
Typed Letter offering to autograph a picture of himself with George Reeves
Typed Letter signed: "Robert Shayne", 1 page, 8½x5¾. Camarillo, California, 1981 March 28. On personal letterhead to Mr. Jim Weaver. In full: "I at last have time to wade through accumulated mail. Among those I found in the pile was yours of 9/5/80. I do not recall ever receiving a photo from you to autograph. If I did, I cannot find it. Did I return it to you? If I did not I will gladly send you a photo of George Reeves and me, autographed by me, upon your request. Please let me know. Sincerely". Robert Shayne (1900-1992) is best remembered as Inspector William Henderson on the TV series, The Adventures of Superman (1952-1958). His role in the series grew larger with each season. Shayne had moved from stage acting to become a contract player with Warner Bros. in the 1940s, with starring roles in B-movies and supporting ones in big features (North by Northwest, 1959; Tora! Tora! Tora!, 1970). In State Penitentiary, he played an engineer who framed his partner for a crime he committed. Other TV series in which Shayne made multiple appearances were Navy Log (1955-1957) and Death Valley Days (1959). Multiple mailing folds. Signature lightly beaded but legible. Fine condition.
