ROBERT TAYLOR
Robert Taylor sends a typed letter resigning from membership in the Friars Club.
Typed Letter signed: "Robert Taylor", 1p, 7¼x10½. Los Angeles, California, 1950 December 20. On letterhead of A. Morgan Maree, Jr. and Associates to Friars Club, Hollywood, California. In full: "Will you please accept this as my resignation from membership in the Friars Club effective December 31, 1950. And, by the way, is it not time for another payment on the note which I hold and on which the last payment made was I believe in February, 1949. Very truly yours." Ink note (unknown hand) at bottom: "$500.00 Board of Directors loan." The good looks of Robert Taylor (1911-1969) sometimes caused critics to overlook his acting talents, which he displayed in such films as Camille (1936), Waterloo Bridge (1940), Bataan (1943), Quo Vadis (1951) and The Last Hunt (1956). He starred on TV in Robert Taylor's Detectives (1959-1962) and succeeded friend Ronald Reagan as host of Death Valley Days (1966-1968). He was married to two actresses: Barbara Stanwyck and Ursula Theiss. Taylor had been a founding member of the Los Angeles Friars Club in 1946. The Club survived his resignation, however, remaining to the present a popular meeting place for entertainers. Slightly soiled in lower margin. File and staple holes at top. Otherwise, fine condition.
