Actor sends long letter to friend John Willis, editor of Theatre World, thanking him for his kind words
Autograph letter signed: "Bob" in blue ink. 2 pages, 5¼x8¼. Written on personal stationary. New York City, New York. In part: "Dear Jack - How like you to write me as you did. I was very touched by your good words". Prominent stage actor Robert Thomsen (1916-2010) performed many times on Broadway in productions such as They Shall Not Die (1934), Bury the Dead (1936) and Mamba's Daughters (1940), as well as in many Chicago-based shows, many which he won Joseph Jefferson Awards including Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Da (1974) and Best Actor for Solitaire/ Double Solitaire (1974). Thomsen also appeared in the series Prisoner: Cell Block H (1979-1984) and in Kavanagh (1999). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Slightly toned. Light surface creases.
