He signs a brief typed letter on his personal MGM letterhead, responding to a
birthday wish (1951).
Typed Letter signed: "Bob", 1 page, 7¼x10½. Culver City,
California, 1951 October 8. On his personal stationery from
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios to "Dear Edgar J." In full: "Thanks
a lot for your birthday wishes. I appreciate them deeply. Sincerely". Robert
Zigler Leonard (1889-1968) made his silent film debut in the now lost Lon Chaney
film The Sea Urchin (1913). He co-starred with his first wife, Mae
Murray, in a series of 8 movies for MGM. As was nominated for two Oscars as
Best Director (The Divorcee, 1930; and The Great Ziegfeld,
1936). Both films were nominated for Best Picture, and The Great
Ziegfeld won. This letter was signed in the interval between Leonard's
classic film noir, The Bribe (1949), and his last major picture, Her
Twelve Men (1954).Horizontal mailing folds. Lightly creased. Fine
condition.
