Canada's first female astronaut signs her name on this commemorative
envelope from 1979
Commemorative envelope signed: "Roberta Bondar" in black ink,
6½x3½. Postmarked August 13, 1979, Denver, Colorado. Commemorating the
747/Enterprise shuttle carrier stop over enroute to Edwards Air Force Base,
California. NASA photo. Roberta Bondar (b. 1945) was Canada's first
ever female astronaut and first neurologist in space. After spending over
ten years as NASA's head of space medicine, she became a consultant.
Bondar spent significant time researching and examining data taken from
astronauts who had returned from space missions, to try to understand the
mechanisms behind the body's ability to recover from exposure to space.
The female astronaut spent eight full days in space. Slight residue on
"R" in signature, fully legible. Fine condition.
