THE BASEBALL ALOMARS: FATHER SANDY, SONS SANDY and ROBERTO
Signed photo of the Alomar family - Padres coach Sandy, Sr. and Padres players Sandy, Jr. and Roberto - together in Padres uniforms. Sandy, Sr. coached both his sons on the Padres, both of whom later went on to baseball stardom.
Photograph signed: "Sandy Alomar", "Sandy Alomar Sr", "Roberto Alomar". Color, 10x8. Shown as teammates on the San Diego Padres. SANDY ALOMAR,SR., born in Puerto Rico in 1943, was a solid though unspectacular second baseman for seven Major League teams (1964-1978). A switch hitter, he stole 20 or more bases seven times and made the All-Star team in 1970. In 1988-1989, as coach for the San Diego Padres, he coached both of his sons. Roberto followed his in father's footsteps as a second baseman, while Sandy, Jr. became a catcher. Both sons achieved stardom, but not with the Padres. SANDY JR., who had played little for San Diego, was traded to Cleveland, where he won Rookie of the Year honors in 1990. A six-time All-Star despite being plagued by injuries, he helped keep the Indians in playoff contention through the late 1990s, including two unsuccessful trips to the World Series (1995, 1997). ROBERTO was traded to Toronto in 1991 and helped the Blue Jays to World Series victories in 1992-1993. Roberto made the All-Star team for 12 consecutive years (199-2001). He had continued success as a Baltimore Oriole, despite bad publicity from spitting on an umpire. The brothers were temporarily reunited on the Indians roster (1999-2000). Fine condition.
