in black ink. 3¼x4¾. Rockwell Blake (b. 1951) is a retired American
tenor in the opera, who was the first to win the Richard Tucker
Award. After serving three years in the US Navy, Blake made his solo
debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. in Rossini's
L'italiana in Algeri. He quickly became regarded as the leading
Rossini singer of his generation. While critics found his voice to have a harsh
timbre, he achieved great success over the years, singing in over 40
different operas by several famous composers, including Mozart, Bach,
Beethover, Handel, and Stravinsky. Since retiring in 2001 from the
professional stage, the tenor spends his time teaching all over Europe and the
United States. Corners rounded. Edges lightly worn. Otherwise, fine
condition.
