in the sixth round. TONY ZALE won the World Middleweight Championship in 1941. On
September 27, 1946, he knocked out ROCKY GRAZIANO in the 6th round to retain his
title. On July 16, 1947, Graziano became champ when he KO'd Zale in the 6th. On June 10,
1948, Zale KO'd Graziano in the 3rd round to regain his title. Boxer Rocky Graziano
(1919-1990) was World Middleweight Champion (1947-1948) and is a member of the
World Boxing Hall of Fame (1983) and the International Boxing Hall of Fame (1991).
His autobiography, Somebody Up There Likes Me, was turned into the 1957 Academy
Award-winning film starring Paul Newman as the boxer. Known as "The Man of Steel,"
middleweight boxing champion Tony Zale (1913-1997) is best remembered for his thrilling
three-fight series with fellow Hall-of-Famer Graziano. Zale held the Middleweight
Championship longer than any other boxer in the world (1940-1948). Zale who compiled
a record of 67-18-2 (45 KOs), was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in
